SWTOR Producer Ben Irving has posted an open letter to SWTOR Players to address some of the concerns with KotFE. My name is Ben Irving, How Does Cryengine Make Money for Star Wars: The Old Republic. I don’t often make posts in the forums, in fact, this may be my first ever post.

Recently there have been questions and concerns around the quality of our releases and the ongoing support for SWTOR and I wanted to stop by to address those concerns. First off, I want to apologize for some of the issues you have experienced in the last couple of months. The monthly chapter release schedule is new and it has come with some unexpected bugs. It has caused problems for some of you and I want to say I am sorry. At our core, the SWTOR team are all gamers, just like you. We empathize with the excitement of wanting to play a great game only to be blocked by a problem.

Is SWTOR going to receive ongoing support? It’s worth starting with the things we have already announced, we talk about them on the monthly Producer Live Stream but I think they are still worth mentioning. The harder part to address, because you have to take my word for it, are all the features and content we are working on that we haven’t yet announced. If you follow Charles Boyd or Paul Marino on social media you may have seen some hints of this. Charles Boyd spent a week at our VO studio recording more lines of dialogue for future story content. Knights of the Fallen Empire is the most successful expansion we have ever produced. It received critical acclaim from press and fan sites but most importantly, it has been successful because all of you have supported us through the expansion launch and the release of the monthly Chapters. In the eyes of all of our partners, SWTOR is a huge success.

If there is anything I would like people reading this to take away it’s this: SWTOR is absolutely being supported into the future. We have a lot of content coming over the next few months and even more exciting things to talk about later this year. It’s because of you, our players, that this game continues to thrive. Thank you for playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. SWTOR Masterwork Gear Changes in 5. Translation: The game is not dying. We have more HK rewards coming your way! I think that’s a pretty powerful statement. The devs are probably tired of hearing rumors that the game is dying.

I think players just feel ignored overall. I’ve had buddies tell me the reason they log into SWTOR is just to craft. Thats is literally all they do. The guide writers, the easter egg hunters, the social crowd, the anti social crowd, the cartel market crowd, the events crowd, the world bosses crowd, the GSF crowd, the customization crowd, etc, etc. This game will always hold a special place in my heart. But it is important to note that many players feel that Bioware has unsuccessfully satisfied its communities in-game.

I’ve actually thought that SWTOR gas had one of the greatest customer service teams I’ve seen in a game, both over then phone and with in game tickets. For example, with the release of chapter 12, I had a bug on my client where highlighted armors that I was comparing stats with would keep their stat table frozen on the screen. Glad you had a good experience. All HK reward jokes aside dealing with support for Ch. X on my sniper broke me.

I am happy the game lives on, the company Appeal went bankrupt and development ceased. The main population are the Talan, multicrew adds the ability to join a seat of another commander’s ship or let others join your ship, going through the mud in Shamazaar? What type of support is BW getting?

Being repeatedly told that the issue was fixed and to reset and play it again just happened one too many times. Finally getting the early access to Ch. XI having it auto reset X once again and still be broken was painful. I was glad when XI went live to everyone that X was finally fixed. But for me it was just too late.

I finished unsubscribed and went F2P the fact that the arena kept being pushed back helped in that decision. For now I am considering subbing again next month but my distrust tells me to wait and see if the championship actually launches and works first. I have been waiting to get Bowdaar back for months just to watch them say not yet each time. It seems like a Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football move to me.

By now they should realize not to make grandiose announcements without the dev power to even come close to the dates. I’m glad your experience was much better. But usually swtor customer service can be quite frustrating. 1 type of community and thier paying for it. They did try to make the crafting community happy too but indeed left out too many. At what point did they try to make the crafting community happy?

Now that I’ve had half my artifice ripped away and given to cybetech, I focused on making sure my cybertech was up to snuff. STILL USING SLICING COMPONENTS instead of, oh, I dunno, the goddamn rare metals that cybertechs are prone to grabbing. At no point was this catering to the crafters, it just bent them over the barrel, with the faintest hint of lube. That is not neccisarily an encouraging thought. I’ve already accepted the game for what it is. Wow, there must have been a lot of cancellations.

I don’t think players are threatening anymore. I think they are really doing it now, and unsubscribing by the bunches. Some players have posted their canceled sub pictures on the forums and in reddit. Good luck on joining a new garbage game then and start the complaining all over again over there. Yea, damn that guy for having an opinion! However, the truth is, people have been this toxic and critical of the game since launch and they have never made a post like this.

It doesn’t matter what they say or do because your mind is all made up. Never once did I say they can’t fix it. Merely said the current state of the game and direction is not working and the facts prove this hasn’t been the most successful update despite the lies they are telling everyone to convince them otherwise. This open letter is nothing more than a desperate plea to try and save face. Doesn’t matter if we keep subscribing or not, they make most of their money off of cartel market sales at this point. I encountered a guy on Harbinger who just started playing and hadn’t even cracked level 30 yet.

He was a subscriber and had already purchased 25 Hypercrates. 25, That’s not an exaggeration he was opening crates non stop for several days, He was deleting half the items he got because he didn’t want them. Maybe the most successful expansion of people leaving the game. I have to agree I am starting to think about going the ways of F2P and just use ops passes via cartel coins and also buying a bunch prior to going F2P to use to raid.

I’ve only just come back in January but this is beyond sad, I feel for the people who have stuck around and actively subscribed over the years through all this crap. I don’t hold a lot of hope. Neutral gear already exists it’s called adaptive. Aww Shawn Hargrave is going to be so sad! Yeah but he is also going to accuse you of being a fake account and a carebear. I just hope he is having a nice day, and he is finally happy for once.

That’s nice Shawn, I’m glad you are happy. Happy as shit in the sewer. I think Blizzard has already trademarked Soon. I mean, I remember being on Reaper’s forums once when someone in charge of the PR basically said, when we say Soon, we mean sometime between a couple hours and the end of time. Jagex and Runescape use it as well, which I thought was confined to them till now.

I guess it’s just a running joke many game companies have now? Ben Irving Is BW ever going to address the chapter ONE issue with character romance flags not showing up as being set? Im glad to hear from them, i look forward to the furture. PvP balance however it does need to be addressed. I found the toxic community member!

I’m hardly a toxic community member. I actually positivly contribute to the community, I’m that guy teaching the noob how to do his rotation, the guy teaching pugs how to do proper fight mechanics. We encountered no such bug to be honest. We actually found 16M significantly easier than 8M. What bug are you referring to? You mean he never breaks his channel when you first get to the third floor, despite the necessary dps being applied to break it? Like a lot of people ive played this game since Beta but i stopped playing about 1 year ago, i keep coming back to this site in hope there would be something amazing to bring me back to the game but with no luck so far.

This game has gone down hill since the Cartel Market, putting all the great items in packs and making us gamble for them and on top of that paying a subscription. 15 a month anymore, BW need to address this because players are not getting there money’s worth anymore. The only real problem I have with KotFE is that there isn’t any replay value. With the Hutt Cartel expansion, they cut things down to 2 faction stories. That made replay pretty tedious, as it was. Now, it’s just 1 story for everyone. Guys guys, the game is not dying, everything is awesome, and get ready for more HK-55 shit and boring chapters we’ve been hard at work on.

I’m simply incapable of taking anything said by a BWEA representative at face value, at this point. It’s not my fault, it’s yours. I just bought a 2-month timecard 4 days ago and haven’t even bothered logging in yet, and when I do, it’s only because my guild needs a tank and they call me over Whatsapp. The sub cost is peanuts, the wasted time doing the same old boring shit isn’t. Lol why do you think this letter was written?

I would genuinely like to see them streamline some of these changes. They upped the level on all the heroics, but there are so many bottlenecks due to low spawn rates during peak hours, like that Mando in the dark temple impside, or the Rakghouls on that one mission on Taris. They increased the levels on 50 operations bosses, which yeah, if you break it into individual bosses it sounds more incredible. Heck, if you divide it into ops it still sounds a little impressive at 9 ops and 2 single encounter instances. He left out the world bosses too. That story introduces some really nice areas, some of the best environments I have seen in this game, instead of giant oversized megahangars, oversized streets etc, but some of the best places we have seen we only have access too one time, then never again. That are not worth the time or effort to do, because you gear up faster, and accumulate commendations at a higher rate by doing operations.

Flashpoints are a good place to gear up and learn mechanics to start doing ops? And while releasing all the new content, some of the core content was pushed back, over and over, with nothing given in its place, leading the audience to feel cheated for 2-3 months, with what felt like minimum effort. I am happy the game lives on, but its time to address your house, it is very much out of order. The letter does make a really good attempt to make it seem like all is fine and dandy. The reality is that it isn’t. I think players are simply happy that they actually wrote this letter because more silence would be really bad at this point. At this point I may just be one of those people who signs up at the end of a season, or when a popular party member returns.
